Website Update

I’ve made some small changes to the site here and there.  Most people won’t notice, but I’ll list it here, at least for my own records.

  • borders to my images similar to the borders that my photo album thumbnails had.
  • a search box so know you to search for posts. (I have quite a bit of posts now so this shoudl come in handy.)
  • BUNNY – Look at the bottom of the right sidebar section.

I found the bunny world domination thing a while ago, and I’ve been using it as my signature in my emails.  I figured it might be nice to have it on my website as well so there it is.

Ok. After much thought and discussion (OK. Not really, but it sounds better that way), I decided to bring back the site name DamnKorean. It’s easier to remember than www.hwanch.com. I’m also trying to think about what else to blog about in general. I don’t want to be the same old blog as everyone else. As people have told me, my site is boring. So I need to spice it up. Any thoughts, anyone?

I finally had some time to upgrade my WordPress installation to version 2.0.4. Its suppose to be mainly security fixes so it shouldn’t affect my site too much.

I’ve also added the plugin ZenShow to show four random photos to the sidebar of my site straight from my ZenPhoto albums. It seems to work just fine.

Please let me know if you see any bugs on the site.

As you can see, I’ve changed the style of the site a bit. I modified the original WordPress Connections theme by Patricia Müller to fit my needs. There are lots of small little changes. However, one of the most noticable is the top banner. I’ve reduced the height of the top banner so that it takes up less space, allowing you to see more of the page without scrolling.

I also made companion theme for ZenPhoto as well. One of my friends got annoying with scrolling to look at pictures (you lazy bum) so i tried to minimize scrolling as much as possible. If your resolution i set to 1024×768, you sould be able to see most of the picures without scrolling. I’m trying to incorporate a slideshow and a navigation system similar to the one flickr uses. However, since I’m busy with work, I won’t have too much time to work on this. I’ll tyr to get it up ASAP, but it might be some time.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

20060617_122314_ek I finally got ZenPhoto intergrated into my site. Now I can finally go back and post the pics Ive been meaning to share with people, but didnt have time to.

To celebrate, Im posting up pics from Las Vegas. Go to my Album section to see it, or click on the image on the left.

I decided on ZenPhoto for my picture album.  The only problem is intergrating it into WordPress so that it has the same look and feel.  I tried the advice written here, but it doesn’t work as nicely as I had hoped.  I’m working on tweaking the coding around to make it work better.  I should be done soon, and then i’ll upload pics, including the latest ones from Vegas.

I love open source software.  Its saving me so much time and the quality of these software is top notch.  Kudos to all the open source programmers out there.

For this site, I’ve been looking for a good gallery program that I can integrate into WordPress.  There were a lot of choices, but many of them didn’t meet my needs.  Either they were too bloated with useless features, or overly simplistic.  I came across two that I like: ZenPhoto and Plogger.  I’ve tried both of them out and I’m leaning towards Plogger.  Now the only thing left is integrating it with WordPress.

I’ve also been working on a group blog for my friends and myself.  I’m trying set up a blog by email for that site to simplify posting.  I love the plugins available for WordPress that lets you do this.  I’m still trying to figure out what’s best, and I have to figure out stuff like Cron jobs, which I never dealt with before.  If anyone has any tips, let me know.

My first blog post.

I finally got some hosting space and put up a website so people would stop asking me, “what happened to your website and your online photo album?” Since I don’t have too much time to code, i’m going to use WordPress, and other open source software to create and maintain my website.

I know the site’s not much now, but I’ll be working on adding photo albums to share with all my friends soon.
